Meet the DoctorDr. Kari McKenzie (formerly known as Dr. Barnes) is a graduate of Loma Linda University in California, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene in 2002 and later her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2008. Her six years of experience as a dental hygienist before completing her DDS degree gives her a unique perspective on her patients’ oral health. Dr. McKenzie enjoys broadening her depth of knowledge in the field by attending numerous continuing education courses each year. She enjoys meeting her patients and providing each one with patient-centered quality and compassionate dental care. The wealth of knowledge that she brings to her patients at Treasured Pearls Dentistry extends from her experience and additional training in the areas of placement and restoration of dental implants, Invisalign clear aligners, cosmetic dentistry, dental care for children, gum disease, root canals, wisdom teeth removal, and oral conscious sedation, to name a few. Dr. McKenzie is an active member of the American Dental Association, the District of Columbia Dental Society, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. She participates in various community outreach events in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. She is a mentor for aspiring dental assistants, dental hygienists, and dentists by providing on-site internships to local students that are interested in the dental profession. Her passion for serving those with little to no access to dental care has taken her to Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, Jamaica, and Mexico to provide dental care in remote regions of those countries as well as remote communities in the United States with limited dental care opportunities. In her spare time, she enjoys gymnastics, traveling, weight-lifting, running, trying out new restaurants, spending time with family, and building or repurposing furniture. |
